Blue sharks can reach maximum lengths up to 3.8 m (12.5 ft). Average-sized sharks are smaller,  more like 1.8 to 2.4 m (6 to 8 feet). A blue shark can weigh up to 200 kg (441 lb). Pups are 48 cm (19 in.) long at birth.

What do they eat?

Blue sharks eat "almost anything." They prefer fish and squid. But will also eat small sharks, seabirds, garbage, and carrion.

They are eaten by bonito sharks and probably other large sharks. The California sea lion has been seen preying on the blue shark.

Where do they live?

Blue sharks are found all over the world in temperate and subtropical waters.  The are found at the surface down to 350 m (1,148 ft)

Blue Shark Highlights:

These sharks are as beautiful as they are dangerous. Blues have been known to attack and harass divers.  They generally live offshore, but can come near shore.  The blue shark is one of the most abundant species of sharks, but is also the most fished. It is estimated that 10 to 20 million are killed a year.
Blue sharks are viviparous. Pups are born after a 9 to 12 months after fertilization. A litter pups can consist of 4 to 82 pups.
