Ribbon Seal Highlights

Ribbon seals are found in the Bering, Chukchi and Okhotsk seas. Sometimes they're found further south near the Aleutian Islands.

Little is known about these seals. You won't find then on land or on ice  shore. You might find one on a nice thick slab of ice, further from shore.  But you might not even capture a photo of it because ribbon seals scoot across the ice as fast as a person can run.

Pups are born sometime between April to May. Like most seals, pups grow up fast. They only nurse about 4 weeks before mom leaves forever.

Pups are born with a lovely thick white fur coat.  They keep the coat for about five weeks, than a short grayish coat replaces the baby fur. Adults have brown to black fur, with thick white bands, or ribbons around the neck, each flipper, and waist.
